In a new blog post, the social media behemoth announced that its video player will become more “immersive.” Tapping on a video now takes it full screen, and you can browse more by scrolling through them, similar to TikTok or Instagram Reels.
Twitter will also include a video carousel in its Explore tab, displaying “some of the most popular videos shared on Twitter.” This should increase the popularity of vertical videos.
According to the blog post, vertical videos will begin to appear in the Twitter app for iOS in the coming days, and videos on the Explore tab are “currently available to people in select countries” for Android and iOS users. This means it should be available in Pakistan later this month.
Reels and YouTube Shorts have proven to be very successful on Instagram and YouTube, but it remains to be seen how successful they will be on Twitter. Unlike its competitors, Twitter has always prioritised text-based posts, so it’s unclear how vertical videos will fare for the bird app.
In other news, Twitter is finally working on the much-touted edit button for tweets.It may eventually become available to everyone, but no confirmation has been provided.
