With Vertical Videos, Twitter is taking on TikTok

TikTok’s dominance in the social media market has had an impact on nearly every other social app over time. Instagram and Facebook introduced Reels, YouTube introduced Shorts, and now Twitter is joining the fray with its own vertical video format.

In a new blog post, the social media behemoth announced that its video player will become more “immersive.” Tapping on a video now takes it full screen, and you can browse more by scrolling through them, similar to TikTok or Instagram Reels.

Twitter will also include a video carousel in its Explore tab, displaying “some of the most popular videos shared on Twitter.” This should increase the popularity of vertical videos.

According to the blog post, vertical videos will begin to appear in the Twitter app for iOS in the coming days, and videos on the Explore tab are “currently available to people in select countries” for Android and iOS
